GIS Project Officer
Contract until 31st October 2018
Based in Brisbane CBD

The GIS Project Officer will assist the Manager GIS Services (Operations Branch) in the maintenance, remediation and mapping of spatial information required for the Authority in the submission process.

The key functions of this position involve:

Manage & process spatial datasets to aid approval of NDRRA eligible works;
Check incoming coordinates, photos and other geographic information for consistency and accuracy, suggesting remediation where necessary;
Validate and update where necessary submission geographic information;
Provide mapping and data manipulation to support the Authority’s activities in the 2016/2017 cyclone season and other work programs;
Maintain spatial datasets in accordance with the Authority’s spatial data management system;
Provide advice to internal stakeholders on the use of spatial applications and geographic data;
Assist in staff training and technical support of field activities using mobile GIS applications; and
Any other activities as directed by the Manager GIS Services.
Key skills required:

Proven ability to create, edit, manage and present spatial information using ArcGIS Desktop;
Experience in manipulating aspatial information in Excel spreadsheets and text documents and integrating with GIS;
Demonstrated understanding of mobile GIS, GPS, and field data collection;
One - two years’ experience in identification, gathering, analysis and reporting of spatial information in a customer-focused service delivery environment;
Understanding of spatial and aspatial database concepts including single point of truth, metadata, tabular relationships and geocoding;
Well-developed written and oral communications skills including the ability to explain requirements, provide advice and render technical assistance;
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team-members and other stakeholders; and
Ability to work autonomously.
